We continued to work with land and water, and saw the effects of what happens to the land when larger amounts of water come into contact with the land at the same time. Students also learned about erosion and weathering, some of which we are seeing in our stream tables during our experiments.

We have been working with land and water for our new science unit. Students created stream tables to see the effects of runoff as water pulls soil away when the soil is over saturated.

Our new science unit arrived this week! Three big tubs of supplies to help us learn about land and water. We will starting this unit when we get back from winter break.

This week students tried to design a flashlight using the materials we have been using during our electric circuits unit. The design was done on paper, and hopefully we'll get the time to try and physically create these flashlights before the unit is over.

Students experimented with diodes this week, and learned about the importance of them in regards to electricity. We also discussed everything we rely on each day and how much of it requires electricity to get us through our day.

Our science experiments this week included making series and parallel circuits. We ended the week by making a switch for our light bulb to make it easily turn on and off.

Students made circuit testers this week, then used them to test various objects for electricity. They also tried to solve some mystery boxes to see which connections would make their lights bulbs light up.

We continued our Electric Circuits unit by creating a complete circuit, a circuit tester, and discussing the difference between an insulator of electricity and a conductor of electricity.

Our first big unit this year is Electric Circuits. Students worked on making a light bulb light up using only a battery and a wire. They also learned about the parts of a light bulb, and made predictions for different connection setups and if they bulb would light or not.
